TransAmerica Bicycle Trail

Heart of Appalachia Segment

The TransAmerica Bicycle Trail starts in Astoria, OR. and ends in Yorktown, VA.

It’s 4218 miles was developed and mapped by Adventure Cycling Association, along rural two-lane highways,

to celebrate the country’s bi-centennial in 1976.

The Heart of Appalachia segment of the route begins just west of Virginia in Berea, Kentucky and leads though the heart of the Appalachian Mountains to Breaks Interstate Park.

Plan a stop at Gateway to the Breaks Motel for a true Appalachian hospitality experience.

From Breaks, you’ll ascend and descend the Appalachians, along Interstate 80, the two-lane ribbon through Dickenson and Russell Counties. You’ll wind your way through lush landscapes, charming small towns of Haysi, Honaker, Lebanon, Rosedale and Elk Garden. Breaks to Elk Garden is about a 63.5 mile trek.
